Isolation
Work created during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
For a while I didn't know what to do with myself. There was an expectation for artists to suddenly become creative, but I had 'artists block'. Then one day, while numbly gazing out of the window at my newly acquired fully seeded and bustling bird feeder, I looked at freedom and freedom looked back at me. This work explores ideas of liberty and confinement and a new obsession with nature.

These Isolation series, made from left-over class demonstration portraits, represent the global incarcerated faces that look out from the window to a nature that, for a short while, is taking back some freedom. They were made as part of the @matthewburrowsstudio #artistsupportpledge where you are encouraged to post images of your work on Instagram to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping) Anyone can buy the work. Every time you reach £1000 of sales you pledge to buy another artist's work for £200. The idea is to help alleviate some of the stress that artists have found themselves due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with exhibitions, commissions, teaching and sales disappeared. If you are interested in purchasing any of the works still for sale, please contact me.
